The Bel Canto Singers of Fredericton seek an Artistic Director to begin in the 2026 - 2027 season (onboarding and planning duties will take place in spring and summer 2026). Bel Canto is Fredericton’s only auditioned chamber choir for adults, comprised of about thirty voices. We are now in our fifty-second season, with the mission of performance excellence and choral stewardship. We rehearse on Tuesday evenings at Christ Church Cathedral, and typically perform twice per year, in December and May.

Bel Canto performs diverse, challenging choral works, in a variety of genres. We collaborate with local musicians, and have a deep roster of experienced choral artists. We are board-led, and also employ a collaborative pianist and organist. 

We are seeking for an artistic director who will both help the choir develop as individual singers and an ensemble, and who shares the board’s vision for Bel Canto to become one of the premiere chamber choirs in Atlantic Canada. We are looking for someone with vision and energy, who will lead exciting rehearsals, and who can challenge and support our musicians. The artistic director must be available to lead rehearsals on Tuesday evenings in Fredericton.

This is a part-time position, and pay will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

 

Specific duties include:

• Conducting all rehearsals and performances

• Programming and engaging guest artists

• Auditioning and mentoring choir members

• Collaborating with the board on planning 

• Being the “face” of the choir

The right applicant will:

• Have a passion for choral music and performance excellence

• Have the musical education, training, and experience to lead a chamber choir in challenging repertoire

• Demonstrate strong choral pedagogy and rehearsal leadership

• Have excellent communication skills

• Have a vision for the future of Bel Canto that aligns with the Board leadership
